Water is a vital, indispensable requisite at various leather processing stages. As an extremely concerned organization dedicated to the cause of environment conservation, EKHM has paid significant attention to this pressing issue - on the ecological front efforts have been implemented by re-cycling treated water for process needs within the tannery.

A modern Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) was established in 1997 in compliance with the corporate goals of pollution prevention. As a part of their resource recycling effort for water and further improvement in ETP performance, the effluent treatment plant was equipped in 2006 with a zero discharge Reverse Osmosis (RO) unit. Reverse Osmosis is today the most productive and efficient process treatment technology for effluent water. It is a laudable fact that the RO plant at EKHM has aided in the recovery of 80% of effluent to pure water of 300ppm TDS with more than 95% salt rejection as brine, which is then crystallized in the evaporator to recover the salt.
